Bird’s-eye view:

The literal meaning of this phrase doesn’t require a explanation to understand. It’s a view from above.

This expression also has a figurative meaning: to look at something briefly to get an overview.

Example:  The free session I went to provided a bird’s-eye view of the trainer’s fitness program. The full program involves a great deal of assistance with nutrition, strength and flexibility training, cardio exercises and body image counseling.
